The Biden Administration Did Not Intend to Allow Ukrainians to Sink the 'Moskva' - NYT.

The destruction of the Russian cruiser 'Moskva' reflected the inconsistency in Ukrainian-American relations in the early weeks of the war.
According to the New York Times, American officials were furious that the Ukrainians did not warn them about sinking the 'Moskva'. It was almost impossible to assess Ukraine's actual ability to attack Russian vessels. The Biden administration did not expect Ukraine to be able to deliver such a strong blow.
American military advisors were sent to Kyiv and allowed to come closer to the combat zone. Military personnel and CIA agents managed to communicate with Ukrainian forces and supported their campaign of strikes in Crimea. Later, the Americans received permission for pinpoint strikes inside Russia, the New York Times reported.
According to a former senior U.S. officer, Americans were surprised and said: 'Oh, it's Moskva!', while Ukrainians reacted: 'Oh, thank God. Goodbye.'
Sinking the 'Moskva' caused panic, as the Biden administration did not expect such a strong blow from Ukraine to a Russian symbol of power.
The United States will hold consultations with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and European Union countries regarding monitoring an 'energy truce' between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky stated that after meeting with the U.S. team in Saudi Arabia, he asked about monitoring considering Ukraine's unpleasant experience in Russian relations.
