The bathing season in Turkey is under threat.

Turkey has once again encountered a white mucus known as 'sea mucus', which poses a threat to the ecosystem and tourism this season. This information was published by the website politikam.com, referencing 'Gromadske'.
The problem of 'sea mucus' in Turkey
According to Turkish media and local experts, issues with 'sea mucus' began along the shores of the Sea of Marmara. In 2021, it became a serious drawback for Turkey's domestic resorts.
Professor Mustafa Sari noted: 'Sea mucus', which first appeared in 2008 and first affected the surface of the Sea of Marmara in 2021, may again massively cover the surface of the sea with the arrival of warm weather.'
The cause of 'sea mucus' is the exceedance of normal nitrogen and phosphorus levels in seawater due to fertilizer use. This leads to rapid reproduction of microorganisms that then rise to the surface of the sea and pollute it.
The fauna and flora of the sea floor suffer from 'sea mucus'. Professor Mustafa Sari shared this information, urging authorities and citizens to pay attention to the issue and adhere to established environmental norms.
