Lithuania will cancel benefits for the employment of Ukrainian refugees without temporary protection.

Starting from September, Lithuania will cancel benefits for the employment of foreigners without temporary protection status who cannot return to Ukraine, reports LRT.
The mentioned decree by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Agnė Bilotaitė indicates that from September 1st, benefits that allowed Ukrainians to work without obtaining a work permit under certain conditions will be canceled:
- use of visa-free regime or having a Schengen visa;
- having a national visa issued due to unforeseen circumstances;
- submitting an application for a residence permit based on work, high-skilled employment, or on humanitarian grounds.
High-skilled workers are an exception.
Thus, Ukrainians without temporary protection will need to obtain a residence permit for employment.
Also, the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine provides that Ukrainian citizens with international protection status have the right to budget places in state higher education institutions of the country, which is an exception to the general rules established by the law on higher education institutions.
Finally, a house for Ukrainian refugees was opened in Riga, where they can stay for the first 120 days in Latvia until they find other accommodation. Up to 125 people can be accommodated here. Rooms are renovated and equipped on two floors of the building; there is also a shared kitchen with electric stoves and washing machines.
