Mobilization and Military Medical Commission: What Changes from May 1.

Starting from May 1, new rules will come into force in Ukraine regarding conscription to the army and basic military training. The changes affect various categories of conscripts, including men of different ages and health conditions.

According to the new legislation, starting from August 1, men will be drafted into the army: - men aged 18 to 60 years who have military service experience; - men aged 25 to 60 years who do not have military service experience.

Men with different health statuses and those who are on military records are also subject to conscription. Certain categories of individuals can only be mobilized with their own consent, such as persons with disabilities or convicted individuals.

Also, starting from May 1, basic military training will be introduced, which will be mandatory for Ukrainians aged up to 24 years. This training will be part of the education in higher educational institutions of any form of ownership starting from September 1, 2025.

The duration of the basic military service is five months in peacetime and three months during martial law. For conscripts who have health issues and were previously considered 'conditionally fit', the duration of basic military training will be shortened. They will only be able to serve in certain rear units, and the training program for them will also be shortened, with reduced physical load.

Changes also pertain to the conduct of military medical commissions for conscripts who previously had the status of 'conditionally fit'. They must undergo a medical examination again to determine their fitness for service.
