Two-time World Youth Climbing Champion Petrenko Killed in Donetsk Region.


Ukrainian athlete Yevhen Krivosheytsev reported that Ukrainian soldier and professional climber Maksym Petrenko was killed on the front line.
«Sad news… In the battle against Russian occupiers for the city of Toretsk, defending Ukraine from Putin's hordes, my old friend and longtime climbing partner, two-Time world champion, and international master climber Maksym Petrenko was killed. Eternal memory to Maksym and all the heroes who died defending Ukraine», – wrote Krivosheytsev.
Petrenko died at the age of 46. He was a native of Luhansk. In youth competitions, Maksym repeatedly won medals, including gold ones.
In adult international competitions, his highest award was the bronze of the 1999 World Championship in Birmingham. He became the first Ukrainian and still the only one to win a medal in the adult world climbing championships in the difficulty discipline.
Roman Holovatyuk was one of the best athletes in WAKO kickboxing. He gained popularity in Ukraine and beyond as early as age 22, when he won a medal at the X World Games in Poland in 2017. After that, he continued his outstanding sports career, becoming a merited master of sport in WAKO kickboxing, a finalist of the World Games, a world champion, a multiple-time holder of World and European Cups, as well as a multiple-time champion of Ukraine. The committee emphasized that Holovatyuk was a distinguished athlete, a true Ukrainian, a warrior, and a hero.
In the Kamianets-Podilskyi city council, it was noted that Roman Holovatyuk made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian sports. He left his sports career at the call of his heart and immediately after the war began, went to serve as a volunteer.
Roman Holovatyuk was born on September 30, 1995, in the village of Krasnostavtsi in Khmelnytskyi region. In 2012, he entered the Podilian State Agrarian and Technical University, and in 2014 began training in the kickboxing section. The man was a merited master of sport in WAKO kickboxing, trained by Anatoliy Labatyuk.
Earlier on the front line in Ukraine, powerlifting master, Ukrainian and European champion Andrii Mazanovych was killed.
