The Chinese government has officially stated its intention to take 'decisive countermeasures' against countries that agree to a trade deal with the United States without considering Chinese interests. The Ministry of Commerce of the PRC has published a statement declaring the inadmissibility of concluding any agreement at China’s expense. Furthermore, the document states that China will take vigorous countermeasures against countries that agree to such a deal.Currently, as several countries are preparing for negotiations with President Trump’s administration regarding tariff rates, the People’s Republic of China positions itself that no country should agree to deals with the US at China’s expense. Some economic advisors in the White House have already suggested that countries ease tariff rates but instead limit trade with China.China has a reputation for reacting strongly to unfriendly actions. In 2016, in response to the US and South Korea's position on the THAAD missile defense system, China imposed economic sanctions on South Korean companies and banned tourists from traveling to South Korea. Additionally, China restricted the sale of dual-use goods to the US military and limited the export of strategic materials. According to experts, China should not worry about a potential anti-China coalition, as the US is incapable of achieving this due to its inconsistent policy style.
