NYT learned about Russia's plans regarding "elite" DPRK fighters.
Russia plans to transfer 5,000 military personnel from the DPRK to the Kursk region, who are likely part of an "elite" unit. This is reported by The New York Times.
The first North Korean troops arrived in the Kursk region on Wednesday, October 23, and since then, the transfer of military personnel continues. Every day, thousands of DPRK soldiers arrive in the region.
According to sources, by Monday, October 28, about 5,000 North Korean troops will be gathered. These military personnel are part of an elite unit of the Korean People's Army. They are delivered to the Russian airfield from Vladivostok on large transport planes Il-76 and then transported to the combat zone.
Currently, DPRK troops are concentrated only in the Kursk region and have not yet participated in battles. However, it is unknown what role they will take on the front. It is also unknown how they will change the dynamics of the war, as North Korean troops have not participated in any wars since the 1950s, so the capabilities of even their elite units are in question.
