Olympics. Swedish swimmer refused to participate in the Seine swim due to water quality.

Swedish swimmer Victor Johansson refused to participate in the ten-kilometer swim at the Olympics in Paris due to the quality of the water in the Seine. The recommendation to refuse participation was given to the athlete by the medical staff of the Swedish Olympic Committee.
«After weighing their recommendations and all the risks, we decided that the best decision would be to refuse the swim» - noted Johansson.
The men's open water swim was scheduled to take place on August 9. Some ecologists pointed out that the quality of the water in the Seine does not meet the standards for swimming. However, there are studies that indicate an improvement in the water quality of the river to acceptable levels.
