Pope Francis Takes on China – the Most Complex Issue of Foreign Policy.

Pope Leo XIV Spoke About Relations with the Catholic Church in China
Pope Leo XIV, the first American Pope, on Sunday urged prayers for the unity of Chinese Catholics with the Holy See. This became known after a special celebration held at the Catholic Church regarding prayers for the unity of the Catholic Church in China. All of this is part of Pope Benedict XVI's efforts to unify approximately 12 million Chinese Catholics.
Pope Leo XIV expressed hope that believers in China and around the world will be strong and joyful witnesses of the Gospel, promoting peace and harmony. In 2018, Pope Francis approved an agreement on the selection of bishops, which faced criticism from not all Catholics. Now, Pope Leo XIV faces the question of continuing this agreement and addressing violations, particularly the unilateral appointments of bishops without the Pope's consent.
The Vatican's efforts to improve relations with China continue after a seventy-year hiatus. The 2018 agreement aims to unite the flock, organize the status of unrecognized bishops, and thaw relations between China and the Vatican.
