David Lynch, the renowned American director who transformed cinema with his surreal films, has passed away at the age of 78. His family announced his death on social media platform Facebook.
Relatives expressed deep sorrow and noted that the world has suffered a great loss. However, they reminded everyone of his words: 'Look at the donut, not at the hole'.
With deep sorrow, we, his family, announce the departure of the person and artist David Lynch. A great emptiness has now appeared in the world due to his absence. But, as he himself said: 'Look at the donut, not at the hole.'
David Lynch was nominated for the prestigious 'Oscar' three times for his directorial work. Among his most famous films are 'Blue Velvet', 'The Elephant Man', and 'Mulholland Drive'. In 2019, he was awarded an honorary 'Oscar' for his contribution to cinema. Lynch's film 'Wild at Heart' was awarded the 'Palme d'Or' at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990.
Lynch's career began with experimental short films in the 1960s. His first feature film 'Eraserhead' (1977) became a cult classic. However, his breakthrough came with the film 'The Elephant Man' (1980), which received eight nominations for the 'Oscar'.
Lynch's most defining work is considered to be the series 'Twin Peaks' (1990), which changed the television landscape with its unique blend of detective, comedy, and surrealism. In 2017, the series returned to screens with a third season.
Last August, David Lynch announced that he was suffering from emphysema due to his smoking addiction. According to certain sources, his condition worsened due to a fire in his hometown Sunset.
