Customs Clearance of Cars in Ukraine: What Additional Expenses Await Drivers.

Ukrainians were informed about the cost of customs clearance of cars and its components. The cost of customs clearance depends on several factors, such as the age of the car, its value, the type of engine, and its volume.
When importing a car into Ukraine from other countries, customs clearance must be completed. The cost of customs clearance consists of several payments:
- Import duty - 10% of the customs value of the car.
- Excise tax - calculated individually depending on the type of fuel, engine volume, and the age of the car.
- VAT - 20% of the customs value of the car, including duty and excise tax.
- Pension fee - from 3% to 5% of the car's value upon its first registration in Ukraine.
One of the key components of the customs clearance cost is the excise tax. The calculation of the excise tax is performed using the formula: Excise = Base rate x Engine volume (L) x Car age (in years).
The base excise rates depend on the type of engine:
For gasoline cars:
- up to 3.0 L: 50 euros per 1 L of engine volume;
- over 3.0 L: 100 euros per 1 L of engine volume.
For diesel cars:
- up to 3.5 L: 75 euros per 1 L of engine volume;
- over 3.5 L: 150 euros per 1 L of engine volume.
For electric cars:
- the excise tax is 1 euro for every 1 kWh of battery capacity.
For hybrid cars:
- the rate is reduced to 100 euros regardless of engine volume.
It should also be taken into account that when registering a car, a pension fee must be paid, which depends on the value of the car:
- up to 165,000 hryvnias - 3%;
- from 165,000 to 290,000 hryvnias - 4%;
- over 290,000 hryvnias - 5%.
In Ukraine, there is a new law on the sale of used cars.
