Rubio assessed the progress in US-Russia negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that the meeting of President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff with Putin in Moscow was very positive and productive. Rubio expressed 'cautious optimism' regarding the possibility of achieving peace in Ukraine and emphasized that the parties have come closer to ending the war and establishing peace.
However, Rubio stressed that any agreement must be acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine, and the final decision will rest with the president. He also noted that Moscow had set forth its conditions for the agreement by hinting at a ceasefire.
President Trump responded to the meeting, calling Putin's statement very promising but incomplete. He also warned that if Russia refuses to ceasefire, it would be 'a grim moment for the world'.
Overall, the meeting was productive, with Marco Rubio providing information about the discussion.
