Now more expensive than in Poland: Carrot prices in Ukraine have soared to a record high.


Carrots have become the most expensive component of the borscht set in Ukraine, surpassing potatoes, reports the analytical company EastFruit.
According to the results of weekly monitoring, carrot prices have increased by 11% and now stand at 20-28 UAH/kg. This is the highest figure in the last 7 years.
The main reason for this price increase is the unfavorable weather conditions in the summer of 2024, which led to a loss of up to 50% of the crop in some farms. Farmers are actively storing quality products in warehouses, expecting further price increases.
Experts note that carrots have already been the most expensive product among the countries of the region for the second week in a row. Current prices are 3.7 times higher than last year.
In the Polish market, carrots are 30% cheaper, which may lead to active imports of vegetables to Ukraine already in the first half of the season.
The situation is complicated by active purchases by wholesale companies and retail chains amid the limited supply in the market. Producers are selling only surplus products, as the main harvest is intended for storage.
It should also be noted that potato prices are also rising. It is forecasted that the cost of potatoes will be higher in 2025.
