War Crimes of the Russian Federation: SBU Investigators Are Looking into Over 90 Thousand Cases.

According to SBU, researchers are currently working on uncovering over 90 thousand criminal cases related to Russia's aggression against Ukraine. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Service, Serhiy Naumyk, during the international conference United for Justice. United for Survivors, dedicated to coordinating efforts to investigate war crimes and support victims.

'The SBU has conducted pre-trial investigations into over 170 thousand criminal offenses related to the war from the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Currently, SBU investigators are working on uncovering over 90,000 criminal cases. This accounts for more than 85% of the total number of crimes related to the RF's aggression that are being investigated by all law enforcement agencies in Ukraine,' Naumyk noted.

Naumyk explained that the investigations are structured according to types of violations of international humanitarian law, which include planning and conducting aggressive warfare, cruel treatment of prisoners of war, violations of international conventions on weapons, etc.

Noting that besides traditional sources of evidence, the SBU employs modern technologies to enhance the effectiveness of investigations, such as facial recognition, information processing, geolocation, and person identification. These tools allow for the acquisition of important data for conducting investigations.
