Founder of the messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov, is under judicial supervision in France.
Pavel Durov has been charged and placed under judicial supervision in France. He is prohibited from leaving the country and must report to the police twice a week.
The founder of Telegram must also pay a bail of five million euros.
Durov faces charges of six crimes, including complicity in drug trafficking, conducting illegal transactions, and possession of child pornography. For these crimes, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
Durov was released from custody after his arrest but remains under judicial supervision awaiting trial.
The detention of the Telegram founder occurred at a French airport when he arrived from Azerbaijan. He was accused of refusing to cooperate on cybercrime and financial crime issues in Telegram.
Durov's case is being investigated by the national cybercrime unit and the national fraud office. He remains in custody.
French President Emmanuel Macron had previously met with Durov and offered him to move Telegram's headquarters to Paris.
